1. Plan out your room décor and don’t forget your packing list!

You’ve likely spent all summer discussing dorm room styles. If you’re still trying to pull together last-minute details or get ideas, check out our HPU Pinterest board full of HPU dorm décor inspiration. Additionally, don’t forget to check our HPU Packing List for anything you might have overlooked!

2. Deck out your car!

Car window paint, flags, stickers – you name it! Get creative and show off your HPU Panther pride on the journey to campus. Take a pic before you hit the road and tag @highpointu on social media. You never know when you might be reposted!

3. Bring a favorite children’s book!

“Harry Potter,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Where the Wild Things Are.” It’s an #HPUTradition that the incoming class donates their favorite childhood books to local elementary schools. Check out this article on a previous year’s book donation, and don’t forget to pack a book for donation!

4. Download the HPU Guides app!

Search “Welcome Week” within the HPU Guides app to find and download the Welcome Week 2024 Guide. This guide is updated constantly and serves as your best source for up-to-date information. Other event guides are available throughout the year. You can find additional events to search for in the guides app by referencing the academic calendar.

5. Do you have a high school-aged sibling?

Are they coming with your family to Move-In? Encourage them to attend Sibling Orientation during Move-In! Sibling Orientation will take place August 16, 3:30-4:30 pm for Early Decision students, or Saturday, August 17, 3:30-4:30 pm in the R.G. Wanek Center, Bertram L. Podell Extraordinaire Cinema.

6. Forget something? Don’t worry!

We have several convenience-style stores on campus (The Markets at Yadkin and Wanek), but Target and Walmart are also very close to campus.

7. Use those luggage labels!

We sent them to you ahead of time to make the move-in process as easy as it can be. Go ahead and stick those labels on boxes, luggage, bins, etc. even before you load them in the car! That way, when your family gets to campus, we will know where your items go and can quickly help them get there. Bonus Tip: If you run out of labels, don’t worry! Use painter’s tape as a label and write your full name, building and room number in Sharpie!

8. Keep an eye on your time!

Keep an eye on your move-in time and make sure your family arrives only at your assigned time slot to ensure unpacking goes smoothly!

9. Dress comfy!

It’s August in North Carolina. In other words, it’s going to be warm! Be sure to dress appropriately.

10. Look for the tie-dye.

It’s a favorite #HPUTradition! Upperclassmen, faculty and staff are going to unpack your car for you and bring everything up to your room. You won’t lift a finger! Look for HPU family members in tie-dye shirts. We are here to help you and welcome you home!

11. Questions? Just ask!

Look for the tie-dye shirts or HPU name tags! Our Welcome Week Crew is happy to assist during your Move-In Day. For the rest of the year, you can visit a Campus Concierge desk (located in the Slane Student Center, R.G. Wanek Center, Cottrell Hall, and Panther Commons) for assistance with any matter! Additionally, for parents who may want to learn more about available resources, feel free to explore the parent resources page.

12. Last but certainly not least, pause to enjoy the day.

This is a big day for your family. You’ve arrived at a university that will transform and care for you. Take time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished and thank mom and dad for getting you here.

We can’t wait to welcome you home!
