With Commencement just around the corner, High Point University seniors are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2016:
Name: Kevin Poplawski
Hometown: Wallingford, Connecticut
Major: Poplawski will graduate with a B.S.B.A. in Accounting, with a minor in Philosophy, on May 7.
Post-graduation plans: Poplawski accepted a position as an Assurance Associate at RSM LLP in New Haven, Connecticut. In his position, Poplawski will perform audits on middle market companies.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU really helped me to professionalize myself. Especially in sales club, I learned how to brand myself and how to interact with employers and other professionals. Additionally, Bridget Holcombe and Kellie Mcleod in Career and Professional Development both helped me enhance my resume and develop cover letters to send to employers and gave me advice about how to discuss my resume.“
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “George Noxon was my most impactful mentor. I was fortunate to have him as my advisor as well as my professor. He really helped me to establish a plan for my college career and has always been there when I have questions about assignments and career advice.“
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was the VITA program I did my junior year. My classmates and I prepared tax returns for low-income families and individuals in the High Point community. It felt great being able to tell people how big their tax refunds would be and seeing their reactions.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of every opportunity. We are blessed at High Point with many different organizations to get involved in. I would recommend trying several and picking a couple to have large involvement in. Also, it is very important to learn how to sell yourself and meet employer needs when looking for jobs.“
