With another successful commencement behind us, recent High Point University graduates are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2016:
Name: Courtney Sullivan
Hometown: Harwich, Massachusetts
Major: Sullivan graduated with a B.A. in Strategic Communication, with a minor in Business Administration, on May 7.
Post-graduation plans: Sullivan accepted a position as a ShareFile Associate Sales Representative at Citrix in Raleigh, North Carolina. In her position, Sullivan will generate leads for customer expansion, and manage and forecast her pipeline.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has provided an incredible amount of guidance and support for my education since day one. The hands-on opportunities that they have presented me with have been especially beneficial in preparing me for my career at Citrix. The university’s emphasis on ‘extraordinary’ provided me with an engaging and motivational environment and holds true for every aspect of my experience here.“
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Sojung Kim was a crucial part of my education in strategic communication. Her knowledge, support, honesty and enthusiasm inspired me to work hard toward achieving my goals and made me feel confident that I chose the right path. Her Campaigns class gave me an inside look at what it takes to develop a campaign from the ground up for a nonprofit organization, and it was a course that I have proudly spoken of, especially during interviews.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “Studying in Oxford, England during my fall semester junior year truly changed the way that I live every day. Through this program I was able to gain a new sense of self and appreciation for the people and places around me. There is so much to see in this world and I was excited to return to High Point University to share my experience and new knowledge. I came back from England as a more confident, open minded and brave individual and I will carry these qualities with me for the rest of my life.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Step out of your comfort zone! College is the time to figure out who you really are and what you want to do, so take advantage of every opportunity that you are provided with. Another piece of advice that I have is to stay positive and keep moving forward. It’s okay to fail sometimes. Don’t let this stop you from chasing after what you want. Finally, take in every moment you have on this campus. These four years have flown by and I can truly say that even though I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life, I will miss High Point University immensely.“
