We are committed to delivering daily on HPU’s promise to our students: At High Point University, every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. To celebrate the caring people of HPU, we are regularly highlighting staff and faculty members.
Jaime Tamsin is the director of conference and event services and has been at HPU for almost a year. In her role, she works with the University Events team on all the events at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena, Conference Center and Jana and Ken Kahn Hotel.
How do you contribute to HPU’s mission to ensure every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people?
I was a sport and entertainment management student myself, so I understand the importance of making students feel comfortable to ask questions and see what I do. I work with student employees and volunteers during events, and I am always happy to answer any questions students have about what I do and how I achieved my goals in the industry. I’ve also spoken at an event management class on campus. I truly love the event industry and love being able to help students that feel the same way.
How do you help students develop life skills that they will use to achieve lives of success and significance after they graduate from HPU?
When students work with me during events, I make sure they understand that our goal is to ensure every guest has an extraordinary experience. Events are about creating memories for those that are attending, and we are a small part of making that happen.
What is a way that you contribute to students’ personal growth outside the classroom?
My goal is to help students gain confidence in their skills. Even if they do not want to work in the event industry, I hope that giving them tasks to help an event succeed shows them what they are capable of in any aspect of their life.
What are you most excited about for the next academic year?
I am looking forward to learning more about HPU and all of the great events being held in the Qubein Center!
What’s one thing you want students and parents to know about HPU?
The HPU community of faculty and staff is truly dedicated to the students and families. We always have them in mind when planning events on campus!
What’s one way you generate creativity or productivity?
One way I generate creativity and productivity is taking advantage of my downtime to recharge! I love to read and go on hikes with my dog, Finn.
What is your favorite quote?
“‘What if I fall?’ ‘Oh, but my darling, What if you fly?'”- Erin Hanson
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Caine Conservatory and Butterfly Café! I love the food at Butterfly Café and enjoy being able to take a break in the beautiful gardens.
What do you love most about working at HPU?
I love being a part of a new chapter at HPU with the Qubein Center! Seeing guests’ reactions when they walk into the facility and experiencing it for the first time is always a pleasure.
