HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:

Name: Lauren Strickler

Hometown: Newburyport, Massachusetts

Major: Business administration with a minor in marketing

Post-graduation plans: Strickler will join the Georgia-Pacific team in Atlanta, Georgia, as a jumpstart associate. She’ll be part of a 12-18-month rotational program, going through three different sectors of the company before joining one of the many teams.

How HPU helped you get there:

“HPU provided me with countless mentors and numerous learning labs to achieve my goals. Through internship opportunities, leadership positions and access to incredible individuals who make up our Access to Innovators Program, I have been able to learn things that I can apply to my career. HPU has prepared me for the world as it is going to be, not just as it is today. I have developed an incredible relationship with Megan Parker, director of corporate relations in the Office of Career and Professional Development. She has become an incredible advocate, along with Andy Bills, senior vice president of career and professional development. They have helped me connect with incredible individuals from numerous companies and have supported me in all that I do. Their mentorship and trust have exposed me to new experiences.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU:

“At HPU, I have been blessed with many incredible professors. One of the most impactful individuals, who has also become a lifelong mentor to me, is Larry Quinn, chair of the Department of Marketing and Sales and director of the Professional Selling Club. He encompasses the values of HPU and is an incredible example of what it means to support students in all aspects of life. I met him as I was touring HPU, and he immediately introduced himself and offered his help with my college search. Fast forward to my senior year at HPU, and he has become one of my greatest supporters who has helped me refine my leadership skills through serving as the President of the Professional Selling Club.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“My most impactful moment was when I led a Q&A session with Domino’s CEO Russell Weiner, HPU’s Corporate Executive in Residence, my junior year. This opportunity allowed me to engage with him on a deeper level, and I was able to learn so much about his background and his progression throughout his career, as well as gain advice and wisdom that I’ve carried through my time at HPU. It also allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and stretch myself to succeed in a new area which gave me confidence. He is someone who has become a mentor to me and will continue to be one.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?

“I chose HPU for many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons was the community. Even before making my decision to attend HPU, the interactions I had with faculty and professors made me feel like I was already a student here. I knew that the kind of environment HPU creates would provide me with a strong support system where I would feel confident trying new things, taking on challenges and asking for help.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?

“Hard work, curiosity and initiative are some of the life skills and values that HPU has helped me develop in preparation for long-term success. With hard work, anything is possible. Learning to lead is a skill that I have been blessed to have the opportunity to refine over my time here and it has taken lots of hard work. Curiosity and a love of learning have helped drive me both inside and outside of the classroom.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?

“In an environment where I’ve had a support system of professors, faculty, and most importantly, my family, I have been taught to say yes even when you’re nervous and to try new things, because people will always be there for me.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“This campus is full of opportunities everywhere you look, but it is up to you to take advantage of them. Never stop learning and get excited about the possibilities that await. Make the most of your four years here. This is the time when you will refine your skills and grow as an individual.”
