Major: Strategic communication with a minor in marketing
Post-graduation plans: Mrusek is an account coordinator for the Planet Fitness account at Zimmerman Advertising in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In her role, she supports complex integrated campaigns, manages client billing, assists with market analysis, completes competitor analysis and more.
How HPU helped you get there:
“The people I surrounded myself with at HPU motivated and pushed me to better myself and surpass my goals. I couldn’t have done it without them. Working with Megan Parker, director of corporate relations, in the Office of Career and Professional Development over the past year has helped prepare me for my future. She supported me through my job search and helped me so much along the way. I first visited the Office of Career and Professional Development my freshman year when was unsure of what I wanted to do with my future. I talked with various staff members who helped me pair my values and interests with a major at HPU. The office truly provides personalized and detailed advice to each student who walks through the doors — just one way that HPU helped shape me into the woman I am today.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“I have been impacted by multiple mentors at HPU. First, I would like to thank Ginger Moore, assistant professor of the practice of sales, for her positive attitude, honest advice and encouragement. I also would like to thank Miguel Sahagun, associate professor of marketing, for broadening my knowledge in the field of marketing through his courses. He is patient, caring and an intelligent professor that I enjoyed getting to know. Finally, I would like to thank Megan Parker for her friendship and mentorship throughout my senior year. Her bubbly personality brightens people’s days, and she lights up every room she enters. She cares for and wants every student to succeed.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at HPU was getting the opportunity to travel to Spain for the Marketing in Spain Maymester course. On this trip, I was able to learn about international marketing from Professor Miguel Sahagun and indulge in the rich culture of the country. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I recommend studying abroad to every HPU student.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“I always chose to study, do homework or meet with groups outside my dorm to take advantage of the beautiful study spaces across campus. There are so many resources available on campus, and it is up to students to make the most of them.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“Reflecting on the person I was as an incoming freshman, HPU helped me become independent, poised and highly motivated. Through presentations in classes, internships and on-campus jobs I have acquired many skills and become confident in myself and my decision-making skills.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Gain experience through internships early and often. Network and set up informational interviews because the people you meet over your four years are the ones who will lead you to a future job offer. Take advantage of all that the campus offers because there truly is no other place like HPU.”
