HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:

Name: Jayne Eaves

Hometown: Victoria, Texas

Major: History and sociology and anthropology

Post-graduation plans: Eaves will attend Queen’s University Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to pursue an M.A. in history.

How HPU helped you get there:

“The mentorship at HPU helped me get to where I am. When students, like me, have access to experts in their field, they can investigate and converse about that cultivated passion, deeper than any internship. The staff in the Office of Career and Professional Development also helped me compile information for graduate school applications and review my CV.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU:

“Dr. Andrew Tzavaras, instructor of history, was one of my most impactful mentors at HPU. He wrote me a glowing graduate school recommendation and gave me the guidance that helped me to get into graduate school. Professor Stephanie Pruitt was also a huge help and mentor. She offered me advice and input on my personal statement, which was a great conversation starter with other university staff.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“My most impactful moment was during the history department’s graduation party. Professors I had spent hours discussing history with gave me books that related to my topic of interest and provided me well wishes that brought tears to not just my eyes, but my family’s as well. They saw my growth and impact beyond a report card.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?

“At HPU, I developed the confidence in what I needed to do, but it was the support of staff and faculty that gave me people to lean on through the process. I was provided the type of mentorship I hope to emulate as a professor in the future.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“Learn from your professors outside the classroom and the information will transcend into something beautiful.”
