Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:

Post-graduation plans: Ruiz joins NCSA College Recruiting as a recruiting coordinator, where she helps high school student-athletes, coaches and athletic directors navigate the college recruiting process.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU helped me get to where I am now by connecting me with colleagues and community partners. I networked with people who helped me on my journey to success. The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me improve my resume and conducted mock interviews with me to prepare me for my future.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentor was Dr. Tim Koba, assistant professor of sport management. I had the pleasure of being his student during my last two years at HPU, and he helped me learn more about the sports industry from a business and leadership perspective.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at HPU was when I was told I was eligible to graduate early. Being a first-generation college student, hearing that I had accomplished my goals and would walk across the stage at Commencement was one of the most emotional moments of my life.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“One of the life skills that HPU helped me develop that prepared me for long-term success was the ability to be coachable. It is so important to be able to work with others and be open to learning new things. HPU also taught me to always put my best effort into everything that I do. I will experience challenges in my future, but I know that I am prepared to face these struggles.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“My advice for underclassmen is to go out in the High Point community and meet people. There is so much to explore outside of campus, and you never know what opportunities might arise.”
