HPU Welcomes More Than 5,000 People to Spring Family Weekend

High Point University families enjoyed a University Update from HPU President Nido Qubein and attended a variety of events during Spring Family Weekend, Feb. 2-4.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 9, 2024 – High Point University and the surrounding High Point community were bustling with students and their families for HPU’s Spring Family Weekend from Feb. 2-4. HPU welcomed more than 5,000 people to campus.

HPU families enjoyed hearing a University Update from HPU President Nido Qubein and attending a variety of events, including a Dean’s List reception, HPU men’s basketball and lacrosse games, club sports, choral concerts, bingo, ice skating and a complimentary Panther Palooza Concert at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena featuring tributes to legendary performers Garth Brooks, Bruno Mars and Tina Turner.

Families also heard from Domino’s CEO Russell Weiner, HPU’s Corporate Executive in Residence, and bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, who answered questions about writing “The Notebook” as well as his 23 other books.

“HPU’s Family Weekend is an excellent opportunity to visit your students and participate in three days of fun and memorable activities,” said Melissa Anderson, vice president for university events. “Families get to experience firsthand their students’ favorite places on campus, meet their friends and their families, and learn more about available resources and opportunities that make HPU so extraordinary.”

High Point hospitality partners welcomed the more than 5,000 attendees who connected with area lodging, dining and retail during HPU’s Spring Family Weekend, Visit High Point President Melody Burnett said.

“The added boost to our local economy generates an estimated $1,402,454 in our city,” said Burnett.

Hundreds of parents responded to requests for feedback about the weekend, including their favorite activity besides spending time with their student. They also listed off-campus restaurants and retail centers they visited during their stay.

“HPU goes out of its way to give its students the best education in a professional setting, with caring professors, state-of-the-art facilities, a superb living setting, delicious food and a safe environment,” said Harriet Synodinos, a Massachusetts mother of two HPU students. “It is the only university I know that embraces the parents and shows their gratitude at every family weekend.”
