HPU to Host Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 18, 2024 – High Point University’s Department of Religion and Philosophy will host the Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series featuring Dr. Janet Soskice on March 25 at 4 p.m. in the Wilson Commerce Ballroom.

Soskice is a professor of philosophical theology at the University of Cambridge, a fellow emerita at Jesus College, Cambridge, and William K. Warren Distinguished Research Professor of Catholic theology at Duke University. The lecture theme is “Naming God: Philosophy, Theology and Prayer.” The event is free and open to the public.

“Dr. Soskice’s work brings together Christian theology and philosophy while addressing fundamental questions about God, creation and language,” said Dr. Christopher Franks, chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy. “Amid modern skepticism about religious language, Dr. Soskice’s path-breaking work will help HPU students and community members toward fresh thinking about prayer and other speech about God.”

The Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series is an annual endowed lectureship that dates to 1960. The purpose of the series is to foster dialogue and to deepen understanding regarding issues of importance to communities of faith. For more information, click here.
