Post-graduation plans: Kristin is beginning her career as a teacher at Millis Elementary School in Jamestown, North Carolina. On top of that, Kristin will also be completing her master’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in STEM at High Point University.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU and specifically the Stout School of Education gave me all the resources I needed to get a job right after graduation and continue on my educational journey.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “The Office of Career and Professional Development has helped me create a resume and CV that stood out within my field.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “The most impactful mentor I had during my time at HPU was Dr. Cavendish, chair and associate professor of education preparation. She guided me through classes and life since freshman year, while also teaching me so much about pedagogy.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU has given me such a great experience with teaching in elementary schools. Through tutoring and practicum experiences, I feel fully prepared to be a successful teacher.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “One of the biggest core values that I have developed at HPU was connection building. I learned that having connections with others and creating strong bonds is imperative to success.”
Advice for underclassmen: “It is important to make strong connections while in college as it helps increase success after college. HPU’s faculty provide so many opportunities for students.”
