Name: Noah Stillman, Class of 2024

Hometown: West Bloomfield, Michigan

Major: M.A. in Communication and Business Leadership – Noah previously earned two bachelor degrees from HPU as well, including a B.A. in biology and a B.A. strategic communication from HPU in 2023.

Post-graduation plans:  Noah is starting his career as an Coastal Public Information Coordinator at S.C. Sea Grant under the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration in Charleston, South Carolina. As their Coastal Public Information Coordinator, he will be coordinating communications and public and media relations for the consortium. Additionally, he will write and produce articles, press releases, social media updates and other needed publications related to consortium research, extension, education and communications activities. This involves going to conferences and schools, as well as getting involved in research in the field.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU provided me with many experiences that allowed me to build my resume so that I could stand out from the rest of the applicants. Those experiences included participating in research, taking on leadership roles in clubs and emphasizing my life skills education with real-world activities in classes.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU:  “I had many mentors during my time at HPU who helped guide me on my journey, but specifically, Dr. Sarah Vaala, associate professor of strategic communication, had the most impact on me. She was my research mentor for the past four years, as well as my faculty advisor. She aided me in taking a deep dive into my passions and allowed me to get research published, all while helping me stay on track with such a complicated course schedule.”

How you used Career & Professional Development:  “The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me determine that I could get two different undergraduate degrees and combine them in a job that I am truly passionate about.”

Advice for underclassmen:  “Work connections and reach out to people. Informational interviews are a great way to narrow down your passions and get your foot in the door in some companies.”
