Post-graduation plans: Amanda served as an Operations Summer Analyst intern in Asset & Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs in Dallas, Texas. Her responsibilities as an intern included facilitating trade execution, managing client onboarding, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating operational risks, driving process improvement initiatives, maintaining client communication and monitoring system performance to ensure seamless business operations.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU provided me with the professional development and networking skills necessary to secure my internship. Through working with our Office of Career and Professional Development, I was able to improve my interviewing skills, fine-tune my resume and so much more!”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Lillian Watson, director of Business Communications program, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. Professor Watson began as my Business Communications and Professional Development professor. However, she quickly became one of my biggest supporters and advocates on this campus. Whether I needed advice or just wanted someone to talk to, I always knew that Professor Watson would be there by my side.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I have worked alongside Career Advisors and Peer Career Advisors. Additionally, I secured my internship by using the platform Handshake, which HPU provides to all students and where companies will ask to work with HPU students and post their job listings on the platform. Along with that, I have also participated in the HPU in the City trips, specifically the New York City program, which allowed me to travel around the city for three days, meet with C-suite executives, tour a multitude of different organizations and gain real-world advice.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU provided me with an abundance of life skills that prepared me for long-term success. Communicating, collaboration, coachability and having a growth mindset are all skills that I gained through attending this institution and that I proudly carry with me throughout my professional journey.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Use the resources that HPU provides! Get your professional LinkedIn photo taken, sign up for the Internship Guarantee Program, and meet with your Success Coaches. We are so blessed to attend a university that sets our students up for success, you have to want to be successful.”
