Name: Michael Zayas, Class of 2024

Hometown: Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Major: Sport management; minor in business administration

Post-graduation plans: Michael joins AT&T in Dallas, Texas, as their B2B Sales Executive. He is largely responsible for prospecting and generating new sales for the company. In addition to that, Michael will specialize in offering client-tailored solutions to small and mid-sized businesses by sharing the capabilities of AT&T’s Fiber technology.

How HPU helped you get there: “As a sport management major with a minor in business administration, I had the unique opportunity to gain valuable and transferable career skills from both the Qubein School of Communication and the Phillips School of Business. Consequently, I left HPU as a confident orator and business-minded critical thinker. Such was a recipe for a successful job search upon graduating.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU would have to be Professor Jim Scott, assistant professor of the practice of communication. His courses challenged me in ways I didn’t even know I needed, and he was there to support me every step of the way. I can largely thank him for being the confident communicator that I am today.”

How you used Career & Professional Development:I would often drop by the Office of Career and Professional Development to receive pointed and insightful feedback on my resume. Upon implementing this feedback, I almost always noticed more promising internship and career opportunities surface shortly thereafter.

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “Confidence. When you receive the extraordinary education that HPU has to offer, you graduate as a polished professional ready to make an immediate impact on the organization you begin your career with.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Your education, like many things in life, will be what you make of it. If you want to have a successful career post-graduation, HPU provides you with all the necessary tools to do so and more. So seize every moment and be particularly intentional about how you invest your time.”
