Post-graduation plans: Cassandra started her career as an Evening News Anchor for Nexstar Media Group in Sarasota, Florida. She is co-anchoring the evening and late edition news for Suncoast News Network, also known as SNN. As an Evening News Anchor, she also assists with producing a newscast each day and anchoring seven shows a day.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU had so many incredible professors in the journalism department who helped me learn everything it takes to be successful in this high-paced industry.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Nahed Eltantawy, interim dean of the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. She believed in me ever since the first day I walked into her classroom freshman year. She pushed me each year to become the best journalist that I could possibly be and always gave me the best advice. She became more than a mentor to me, she became my friend. I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without her continuous support and guidance throughout my years at HPU.”
How you used Career & Professional Development? “I went to the Office of Career and Professional Development for resume help, and I had them review my resume before I submitted job applications.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment reminded me that anything is possible and I can do whatever I put my mind to.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “The life skills HPU helped me develop that prepared me for long-term success were time management, dedication, hard work ethic and commitment.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU helped me learn how to take on any opportunity that came my way the best that I can. They taught me how to be independent and hardworking.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of the help that each professor in your field provides and don’t be afraid to get involved. Join any club of your interest that is available to you as soon as you can. You gain so much more experience that way.”
