Dr. Altman oversees the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Works as the founding Director. The mission of this office at High Point University is to engage undergraduates in student-faculty collaborations that reflect individual and unique scholarly and imaginative experiences which build students’ professional skills and helps prepare them for graduate and professional school and a competitive global marketplace.
Dr. Altman’s background is in comparative psychology with a focus on psychological well-being in captive animals and animal cognition. Across her career, she has taught classes in psychological research methods, zoo research methods, physiological psychology, introductory psychology, comparative psychology, graduate courses in the biological basis of behavior, and study abroad courses to Africa and Costa Rica.
Dr. Altman credits her study abroad trips for being able to bring together her passion for working with students, studying animal behavior, traveling internationally, and enjoying good food. Dr. Altman has guided over 150 students through independent research projects, conference presentations, and publications.
