President Nido Qubein Receives DAR Americanism Medal

Washington, D.C., June 27, 2012 – High Point University President Nido Qubein is being presented today with the DAR Americanism Medal, the highest honor that the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution may bestow on a foreign-born citizen.

The Americanism Committee was established in 1919 with the goal of developing better citizenship training for all persons residing in the United States. An Americanism Medal recipient must have shown outstanding qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service and patriotism as well as displayed outstanding ability in community affairs.

“As president of High Point University, Dr. Nido Qubein is modeling patriotic values to our students who serve as future leaders of the country,” says Gene Kester, HPU Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “He is a proud American who has expressed a love for this nation through his countless leadership roles and philanthropic work.”

Qubein is being presented with the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., which is being attended by more than 3,000 delegates.

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. DAR members volunteer more than 250,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for underserved children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
